"The Mummy" starring Tom Cruise is the lastest movie featuring mummies, made 85 years after the first movie about the unsung hero of the monster world.
1. The Mummy (1932)
A team of British archaeologists led by Sir Joseph Whemple (Arthur Byron) discover the mummified remains of the ancient Egyptian prince Imhotep (Boris Karloff), along with the legendary scroll of Thoth. When one of the archaeologists recites the scroll aloud, Imhotep returns to life, but escapes. Several years later, Imhotep has taken on the guise of a wealthy man, as he searches Egypt for his lost love, who he believes has been reincarnated as the lovely Helen Grosvenor (Zita Johann).
2. The Mummy’s Hand (1940)
In Cairo, archaeologist Steve Banning (Dick Foran) unearths a vase that he believes could lead him to the ancient tomb of Princess Ananka. Unknown to Steve, his colleague, Professor Andoheb (George Zucco), is also the High Priest of Karnac who holds the secrets of Karas, a mummy who guards Ananka's tomb. Upon receiving funds from magician Solvani (Cecil Kellaway) and his daughter, Marta (Peggy Moran), Steve and the Solvanis embark on an expedition to the grave site, where Karas awaits.
