Former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is the latest to show an eagerness to direct the sequel of Man of Steel.
With the DC Extended Universe hoping to fly to glory with Man of Steel 2, Marvel alum Steven S. DeKnight, who executive produced the Netflix series Marvel's Daredevil, has thrown his hat into the ring of interest to direct the project. On Twitter, a fan lodged a question to the creative, who's gearing up to release his latest directorial effort Pacific Rim Uprising. "I know you're busy with post [production] on Pacific Rim Uprising, but I thought of you and thought I'd ask! I know you're a comic book fan, so if the right circumstances came along and the script was engaging, would you ever consider or be interested in directing Man of Steel 2?" the user asked.
In response, DeKnight gave a short, sweet, and superhero-appropriate answer: "Up, up and away!"
That's not a direct "yes" answer to the question, but it's hard to not assume that a classic Superman catchphrase implies a desire to take the reins on Man of Steel 2. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that he will get the job. Plenty of directors have shown interest in projects that never came to fruition over the years, but it's an intriguing development for a sequel that has thus far flown under the radar in the DCEU.
As for Man of Steel 2, the film has been often talked about by fans over the years, but much hasn't been said about it from the Warner Bros. side. The last thing fans really heard about it had to do with Matthew Vaughn's reported interest in working with DC on the project. Nothing has materialized from those talks just yet, though Vaughn did reach out to Mark Millar about the project.
It seems fans might be in for a long wait though, as DC's movie schedule is already pretty full at the moment. The studio has Aquaman this year, followed by films like Flashpoint, Wonder Woman 2, The Batman, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, Harley and Joker, Deathstroke, Nightwing, Batgirl, Black Adam, and Shazam!
