The Batman villainess is set to get her own animated series on Warner Bros’ upcoming DC-branded streaming platform.

As Deadline reports, a new ‘adult’ animated series based around Harley Quinn is said to be in the works. The series will air as a part of Warner Bros’ upcoming DC Comics-branded direct-to-consumer digital platform, which has ordered 26 episodes for a half-hour animated action-comedy series simply titled Harley Quinn. The image below is a piece of development art for the series, which leads us to expect a Harley look in line with her current comic book incarnation.

The project will also feature Poison Ivy and a cast of heroes and villains, old and new, from the DC universe. The animated series follows Harley as she breaks things off with the Joker and attempts to make it on her own as the criminal "queenpin" of Gotham City. The effort is described as an adult animated action-comedy. (Powerless, for its part, was DC Comics' first live-action half-hour comedy.) The series is reportedly being produced by Powerless executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, along with Dean Lorey of Warner Bros. Animation.

According to Deadline, executives hope to bring in Margot Robbie, who played Quinn in Suicide Squad, to voice the character in the new series. It’s all part of a full-court press to take advantage of the character’s popularity as much as possible. Along with the new animated series, there is also an upcoming animated Batman & Harley Quinn movie and a live-action film that will detail the Joker and Quinn’s love affair. Hopefully, any of the projects that Robbie takes part in will sidestep the scathing critiques that Suicide Squad itself earned when it came out last year.

Although no date has been given for the debut of this new series, the DC streaming network is set to debut in 2018.
