Cher Set to Join the Cast of Mamma Mia Sequel

Cher has announced that she’s joining the cast of the Mamma Mia sequel, her first big screen role in seven years.
The ABBA movie musical sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! has added the legendary Cher to the cast. This epic pop crossover was confirmed by Cher herself in several tweets referencing the classic 'Fernando', even revealing the ABBA-riffic boots that she'll be wearing in the musical. In many ways, Cher is the ideal Mamma Mia! cast member. Perfectly suited to musicals and deeply embedded within the culture of the industry, Cher and ABBA are both iconic pop acts who maintain a healthy modern fan-base. This casting is seemingly a match made in musical heaven.
Cher will join returning cast members Meryl Streep, Julia Walters, Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Bronsan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth. New to the franchise are Andy Garcia, Lily James, Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan and Hugh Skinner. The sequel goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical.
Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, writes and directs the sequel from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.Mamma Mia! is the highest-grossing film musical of all time, taking more than £450 million. The sequel is set for release in summer 2018.
