The Hashtag Show reporting that Ryan Gosling is currently under consideration to star as a young Willy Wonka.
Since the late, great Gene Wilder took up the role of author Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka character back in 1971, Johnny Depp has also taken a stab at portraying the candy man, in Tim Burton’s 2005 adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That effort received mixed reviews, however and Warners’ announcement last year that the studio would be delving deeper into the Willy Wonka mythology was met with quite the buzz, especially around the issue of who exactly would be filling the role. Now, thanks to the folks at That Hashtag Show, the news of Ryan Gosling's potential casting has come to light. Here's what they have to say about it.
"Warner Bros. is currently looking for a male actor between the ages of 29 and 35. Ryan Gosling is currently in the lead as he has expressed interest in portraying the infamous chocolate factory owner."
Having recently won an Oscar for La La Land and with Blade Runner 2049 on the horizon, Gosling has become a hugely sought-after actor. With proven singing and dancing abilities, on paper he’s an ideal choice for the role.
This report also reiterates that the movie will be a Willy Wonka prequel that focuses on the character meeting the Oompa Loompas and their early adventures. Since most people didn't take too kindly to Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it makes sense that they wouldn't want to just do another remake.
Last year, Variety got the scoop that a new Wonka movie was in the pipeline at the Warner Bros studio. That report places ‘Harry Potter’ producer David Heyman at the centre of the project with Simon Rich, who penned ‘The Secret Life of Pets’, working on a script.
