6 Upcoming Disney Animation to Live-Action Fairytale Movies

Disney is bringing plenty of animated classics back to life!


1. Beauty and the Beast

Belle (Emma Watson) is a young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast (Dan Stevens)'s exterior to recognize the true heart and soul of the human Prince within, just as a hunter named Gaston is on the loose to take Belle for himself and hunt down the Beast at any cost.


2. Mulan

The classic story of Mulan is being remade as part of Disney's collection of live-action reboots! It centers on a young Chinese maiden who disguises herself as a warrior in order to save her father.


3. Cruella


A live-action feature film following the evil exploits of Cruella de Vil, the villain from the Disney film, '101 Dalmatians'.

Starring Emma Stone and written by Saving Mr. Banks scribe Kelly Marcel.


4. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms


The classic story told of a young girl named Clara who receives a nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve. When she goes to check on it later that night, the clock strikes midnight, and she finds herself thrust into a fantastical world where she is in the middle of a war between gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.

Safe Haven's Lasse Hallstrom will direct, with Ashleigh Powell scripting.


5. Tinker Bell


Details on the project's angle are being kept deep in Pixie Hollow, but insiders say it will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative.

Reese Witherspoon is set to star, with Finding Dory writer Victoria Strouse working on the film.


6. Maleficent 2


Plot kept under wraps. A follow-up to the 2014 Disney film, 'Maleficent'.

Jolie will return for the sequel along with screenwriter Linda Woolverton.
