Another familiar face from Avatar is returning for the sequels, to be exact, for all the four sequel.
Ribisi has signed on to reprise his role as the Resources Development Administration's mining boss Parker Selfridge for all four upcoming movies, reports Deadline. As you may recall, the character said in the film, “This is why we’re here; unobtanium, because this little gray rock sells for 20 million a kilo. That’s the only reason. It’s what pays for the whole party. It’s what pays for your science.” Deadline also reveals that filming already is underway in California on Avatar 2. It's James Cameron's intention to film, basically, Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 together, then dive into parts 4 and 5 once the third one opens. Though, from what he has been saying, he has the scripts for the next four Avatar movies in place, which explains why he knows which actors and characters he will need.
Ribisi will join fellow returning players Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang in exploring the next phase in the conflict between humans and the Na'vi. However the story introduces a host of young newcomers to the franchise, including the three young children of Jake and Neytiri as well as a human teenager who was born at Hell’s Gate.
20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment previously announced release dates for the four Avatar sequels. Avatar 2 will be coming to theaters on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. Filming will then begin on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, which will be released on December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025.
Released in 2009, the first Avatar film remains the highest-grossing film worldwide with over $2.7 billion in box office grosses. Titanic was previously the record holder with $2.186 billion worldwide.
