Linda Cardellini is on board to star in the James Wan horror flick The Children.

James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions has announced the star of the latest horror flick from producer James Wan (The Conjuring, Annabelle: Creation) The Children in the form of Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bloodline, Daddy’s Home). The film appears to be unrelated to Wan’s burgeoning Conjuring Universe movies.

Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis penned the script. Michael Chaves is directing. James Wan will produce through his Atomic Monster production banner along with Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone. Michael Clear is exec producing.

The story follows a social worker who (Linda Cardellini), while investigating the mysterious disappearance of two children, discovers her own family might also be in jeopardy.

There's no sign yet of when this will start shooting, but it'll join the various other projects Wan has on the go, including his Conjuring movie spin-offs. The Children will be distributed through New Line, who has been on a horror win streak with their most current film, the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s “It,” breaking numerous box office records worldwide. It is the highest grossing horror film of all time with over $600 million at the worldwide box office, and major international markets yet to open. “Annabelle: Creation,” an August release that is a part of James Wan’s “Conjuring” universe, has earned over $298 million worldwide.

Cardellini can be seen next in the Paramount comedy “Daddy’s Home 2” opposite Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
