The upcoming Halloween movie is set to upend the entire Michael Myers franchise.
During a recent interview with Stereo Gum to promote his new album Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, the legendary filmmaker revealed the new Halloween will only acknowledge the original film, with the others being ignored. When asked if he was responsible for Jamie Lee Curtis coming back to the series, Carpenter had this to say about how the film will work:
“Her part was written into the script and they had this idea—it’s kind of a…I don’t know how to describe it, it’s almost an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made. It’s gonna be fun. There’s a really talented director and it was well-written. I’m impressed.”
There have been seven sequels to Halloween, beginning with 1981's Halloween II and ending with 2002's Halloween: Resurrection, but Carpenter only directed the original. In 2007, Rob Zombie released a reboot and followed it up with his own Halloween II in 2009. As for whether or not he would like to compose the score for the film: “Sure. I’d like to do it. I’ve worked with them a little bit on the script. I’m just around to be a cheerleader for everybody.”
David Gordon Green is directing the latest chapter in the Halloween saga from a script he co-wrote with Danny McBride, who says that he is “thrilled” to step outside of his comedic collaborations with Green and will “dive into dark and vicious horror” that will certainly not leave audiences laughing.
Halloween (2018) synopsis:
Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Blumhouse's Halloween hits theaters October 19, 2018. Production is expected to start very soon on the Halloween reboot, which means we should be hearing more about casting, and perhaps some more story details, pretty soon.
