Arnold Schwarzenegger Not Doing Expendables 4 Without Sylvester Stallone

Over the weekend it was reported that Sylvester Stallone has exited the Expendables franchise and now Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed that he won’t be back for The Expendables 4 unless Sly is on board.

Deadline reported last week that Stallone, who co-wrote the script for the first three movies and directed the first film, has "washed his hands" of the project, despite being offered a $20 million payday for the fourth film. The star reportedly left because he was wary of making another badly reviewed action movie after his critically acclaimed turn in Creed, although according to Avi Lerner, head of the company that distributes the Expendables films, there's still potential for him to return to the franchise. "We've got disagreements with Sly, but we've had them for over a year and a half," he said. "Right now, each one has an opinion. We agreed on 95 percent of things, but there are certain things in production we don't agree on. I don't think it's over, but write whatever you want. In my opinion, it's not dead."

When asked if he'd be wiling to do a fourth film without Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger replied in the negative.

"There is no Expendables without Sly," said Schwarzenegger in an interview with EW. "I would never do the movie without him, no."

That doesn’t necessarily mean that the fourth movie will be scrapped altogether, though, as Arnie teases the studio’s tentative August start date, before reflecting on The Expendables 3, and the big man doesn’t pull any punches.

“I have not seen the script; I don’t even know if there is a script, even though they want to shoot in August again, like they usually do. You know, I think the first and second one were terrific. But, the third one, I thought my part was not written well. It was also not playing well in the movie, as far as I was concerned. Maybe other people believed differently. But I didn’t believe that I had any value in the movie. I love the franchise, by the way. I think it’s a spectacular franchise, The Expendables. I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t do it.”

Stallone hasn't publicly commented since his exit from the film, and the fate of the film is still unknown. Stream all the available Expendables movie for free by simply scroll down for the track list!
