The actress said she is going back to Disney to do Maleficent 2.

Maleficent fans rejoice! Angelina Jolie is reprising her role as one of Disney's most famous villains in Maleficent 2. Angelina Jolie has officially confirmed that she intends to star in the Maleficent sequel. “We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel,” she said, excited by the prospect of returning to that Disney villainess.

With how focused the media has been on Angelina Jolie’s personal life for the last year or two, perhaps it was a deliberate decision on her part to minimize her appearances in the public eye lately. Since starring in 2014’s Maleficent, the actress hasn’t had a major live-action role. She did lend her voice to Kung Fu Panda 3 to reprise her role as Master Tigress, but animated films can make it very easy to forget who is behind the character we see on screen.

2014's Maleficent was a box office hit for Disney, grossing $758 million worldwide and plans for the sequel were announced in 2015. While there were rumors that the actress might be taking on Bride of Frankenstein instead of returning to the Sleeping Beauty villainess, Jolie confirmed that she is already hard at work on Maleficent 2.

Disney confirmed "Maleficent 2" in 2015, but no solid updates about its development have been dropped since then. Previously, it was reported that Woolverton was working on the screenplay for the upcoming film. She was also the one who wrote the first film but is currently busy with another Disney project, the live-action movie adaptation of "The Lion King," hence the appointment of Butterworth.

Although pre-production updates on "Maleficent 2" are few and far between, Butterworth's appointment only goes to show that the project is not dead. In fact, reports say that he is now rewriting the existing script for the sequel to make an updated version that will be used for the movie. He will reportedly work with "Maleficent's" original producer, Joe Roth, for the sequel.
