More than 10 years after High School Musical became a global phenomenon, Disney Channel is getting ready to return to East High one more time. According to TheWarp, Disney Channel has begun casting for the movie.
The fourth movie in the franchise, which has spawned such stars as Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, will center on a new group of students at East High, as well as their crosstown rivals, the West High Knights. Jeffrey Hornaday, who was nominated for Best Director by DGA, is attached to direct and choreograph the movie. Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush return as executive producers. Jason La Padura, Natalie Hart and Kendra Patterson of LaPadura/Hart/Patterson will serve as casting directors for the project. However, there's still no word on whether Sharpay and Ryan will reprise their roles.

Producers are searching for five new leads, including a soccer player, a bad boy dancer, a jock/theater nerd, who also happens to be Sharpay and Ryan's cousin, a cheerleader and a fallen queen bee.
Debuted on Disney Channel on Jan 20th, 2006, led by Kenny Ortega, High School Musical quickly became one of the network's biggest hits (the highest-rated movie in the history of Disney Channel at that time), selling millions of soundtracks, attracting 7.7 million views and making household names out of its young cast like Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA," says Disney Channel President Gary Marsh. "It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."
Disney Channel has yet to announce an airdate for High School Musical 4.
