Chris Hemsworth Planning to Take a Break from Acting

The actor said he would be taking an extended break from acting soon.
The last couple years have been quite busy for Chris Hemsworth. In the last few years, aside from starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hemsworth had also found work with movies like Ghostbusters (2016), In the Heart of the Sea, and most recently 12 Strong. Hemsworth has also been announced to return as George Kirk (Captain Kirk’s father) in the fourth Star Trek movie. Speaking with The Times UK (via Comicbook.com) while promoting his current film, the war drama 12 Strong, the actor made the surprising revelation about planning to take a hiatus from Hollywood. The reason? Wanting to spend more time with his family, especially his kids who he says are growing up pretty fast, leaving him feeling as if he’s missing so much.
“I want to be able to take the kids to school. I may even be off all year. It all happened at once and I’ve thought about it and gone, ‘God, am I trying to do too much at once? There’s no regret by any means. It just comes out of wanting to be [at home] more.
“I want to be there more. My wife and I were talking the other day about how the years are flying by: our daughter [India Rose] is five and a half and the boys [twins called Tristan and Sasha] are three and a half. And however much time you do have together, it never seems like enough. It’s always exhausting, even when we have help with grandparents or a nanny.”
Chris Hemsworth also mentioned that originally he and his wife, Elsa Pataky, agreed that neither of them would be gone for more than two weeks at a time, but as time passed, the numbers of weeks starting increasing. Hemsworth recalled:
“Then it became three weeks and then it was three and a half weeks. That was brutal. I'd be walking out of the door and [the kids] would start crying, 'Don't go!' I just couldn't handle it, so I'd be like, 'I'll bring you back a present.' And they're like, 'Oh, OK.' Their mood changes. Now every time I come back it's not even like, 'Hey, Dad,' it's just, 'What did you get me?' I see Elsa prepping them as I'm coming towards the door: 'Make sure to tell him, "Hello, I love you," first.' My daughter's bottom lip starts to quiver and she's like, 'Present?'”
Having said that, we assume that Hemsworth will still emerge from his self-inflicted break to promote Avengers: Infinity War due in just a few more months. And if his hiatus spills into next year, it’s safe to say that the same will happen for the still-untitled Avengers 4 sequel. Whatever the actor and his family ultimately decide on, it’s obvious that he is not yet ready to give up being an actor. In fact, as reported, he and Waititi already have ideas for a possible Thor 4.
