Mark Wahlberg Doesn't Think Michael Bay Will Quit ‘Transformers’

Mark Wahlberg’s future with the Transformers franchise will be determined by director Michael Bay and Wahlberg doesn't think that Bay will leave the franchise.

The 46-year-old actor recently claimed that Transformers: The Last Knight will be his last movie in the series, but Mark has now admitted the director will have a big say in whether he returns to the franchise or not. Speaking to Collider, Mark explained: “I am [contracted for more] but look, I signed on to make these movies with Michael. After ‘Pain and Gain’ I was like, ‘Whatever you want to do. Anytime anywhere just let me know.’ So we’ll see. But usually I’m going with Bay.”

In the past week both Wahlberg and Michael Bay announced that after this weekend’s “Transformers: The Last Knight,” they were both done with the franchise. However, when it comes to the director, we’ve heard this before. After the past couple of “Transformers” movies, Bay had said he was done smashing robots together, only to come back and do it again. And if you don’t think he’ll quit the toy franchise, you’re not alone.

Speaking with ComicBook, Wahlberg himself shared his belief that Bay will be back, and that the director’s will once again be enthusiastic to make another blockbuster outing.

“…it’s one of those things where Michael has built this entire universe right, and he will decide what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. Right now he says he doesn’t want to do another film and he says that after every film because they are so difficult to make and he pretty much has to do it single-handedly, even with all the help that he has because all of the movie is in his mind,” the actor said. “So he’ll decide that and I would be hard pressed to see him walk away and put it in somebody else’s control and care.”

If so, it seems like Bay is still up for reprising his role, Bay, however, certainly won’t be helming the first spin-off in the works, “Bumblebee,” which Travis Knight is set to direct and is currently targeting a June 8th 2018 release.
