X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has officially announced that filming has wrapped.
Shortly after Deadpool 2 writer Rhett Reese confirmed the superhero sequel had wrapped principal photography, X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg posted a pic on Instagram today, announcing that filming on X-Men: Dark Phoenix is officially complete. The pic is a BTS shot from Xavier's School, and although a few characters are visible the background, they're too out of focus to be able to determine their identities. The big sequel started filming in the middle of the summer, so Kinberg was clearly able to move through production at a steady pace and not prolong the production process. But, now will begin the post-production phase and prepping the movie to be ready for a marketing push starting next year.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the fourth installment in the series of mutant-focused films set in the past, and is the seventh proper X-Men film altogether. Picking up after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, the film is set to focus on Sophie Turner’s portrayal of Jean Grey as she deals with the devastating cosmic power known as the Phoenix Force. The movie also stars James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summer/Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Monroe/Storm, Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Jessica Chastain in a currently unspecified role.
Many fans were worried when first-time director Kinberg signed on to helm this project, but filming certainly seems to have gone without a hitch. Hopefully an official look at the movie will be released soon so we can get a better idea of what to expect.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently slated to hit theaters on November 2nd, 2018.
