Logan star Hugh Jackman is confident that someone else will take up Wolverine’s cinematic claws.

Thanks to The Independent, fans have learned Jackman has come to terms with Wolverine returning to the big screen without him. Appearing on Lorraine Kelly's ITV breakfast show, Jackman spoke candidly about the role, conceding that the character would return to the big screen soon.

"He'll come back, just not with me," he said, via Digital Spy. "Well, except on Saturday nights at my house. I dress up!

"When my kids are not doing their homework, I dress up and the claws come out. I just have to do that [raise an eyebrow] with the claws and it works!”

Continuing, Jackman stressed the role of Wolverine was too good to let die with his exit. “Definitely someone else will play the role, it's a great role. You know, it's like a Bond or it's like a Batman, those kinds of roles. Other people will play him for sure.”

Jackman made waves when he announced 2017’s Logan would be his final performance as the titular superhero. Wolverine has only been played by one star so far, since the very beginning of the X-Men film franchise in 2000, but his movie icon status gives him the same freedom Batman and James Bond enjoy. The DC hero has been played by dozens of actors over the year like Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Adam West, Michael Keaton, and more. As for Bond, the British agent has been played by actors such as Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.

While plans for future X-Men films are in full swing with next year’s ’90s-set epic X-Men: Dark Phoenix, a New Mutants spinoff starring Games of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, and the much-anticipated Deadpool sequel, it’s unclear what Fox’s next move is with Wolverine, their flagship mutant. However, whatever Fox has planned for Wolverine, the next iteration of the character will have an unenviable task ahead of them. For an entire generation, Hugh Jackman simply is Wolverine.
