Warner Bros is ready to bring those purloining pods back for another round of paranoia.

Deadline reports that another remake of the story is in development with Warner Bros. and the prolific producer John Davis. This brand new version of the sci-fi horror is currently being scripted by David Leslie Johnson, who is best known for his work on The Conjuring 2 and is also responsible for the upcoming The Conjuring 3. Johnson has also written the screenplays for Orphan, Wrath of the Titans, as well as several episodes of The Walking Dead. As the production is in the very early stages of development, there is no news yet as to an intended director, cast, or release date.

The film is based on the 1954 sci-fi novel The Body Snatchers from author Jack Finney. The story takes place in a small town invaded by aliens who plant pods that eventually open to become humans, a copy of those who lived in the town. One by one, each citizen falls prey to these aliens as the pods are dropped alongside their beds, mature as they sleep and then replicate the human as they sleep. The alien humans, which show zero emotion, then start multiplying in the town. This is slowly figured out by a local doctor who tries to stop it, and all the while he (and the audience) never knows who is real and who is an alien ready to kill.

“Invasion of the Body Snatchers” grossed $3 million in its initial release and grew in critical stature to the point that it was selected in 1994 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The film has been remade three times: in 1978 with Donald Sutherland starring and Philip Kaufman directing; in 1993 as “Body Snatchers” with Gabrielle Anwar starring and Abel Ferrara directing; and in 2007 as “The Invasion” with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman starring and Oliver Hirschbiegel directing.

John Davis is best known for producing movies and television shows like The Predator, Game Night and The Blacklist. Johnson has penned films like Wrath of The Titans, Red Riding Hood, Conjuring 3 and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
