Recently, Robert Downey Jr. officially announced that he will appear in the solo film of Spider-Man: "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
Robert Downey Jr. has accepted the invitation to play in the blockbuster marking the return of Spider-Man: "Spider-Man: Homecoming". It turns out that the combination between Spider-Man and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War is only the beginning and the first solo movie about Spider-Man will continue to exploit that relationship.
Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the movie. Although he only appears about 10 seconds in the official trailer of Captain America: Civil War, Holland created a wave of excitement for all fans. Some early reviews from foreign critics show that his debut is much praised. At the same time, Sony also announced the participation of Tony Revolori as Peter Parker's mean schoolmate, Laura Harrier in an unidentified role.
Sony has owned the copyrights of Spider-Man since 1990s, however, this character is gradually becoming more and more alienated from the new generations of audiences. Meanwhile, Marvel has grown big but they face some limitations to expend their Cinematic Universe because some of their signature characters were sold to other studios such as Spider-Man to Sony, X-Men and Fantastic Four to 20th Century Fox. In 2015, audiences got some surprising and exciting news that Sony would cooperate with Marvel to bring back Spider-Man to spotlight. Marvel immediately agreed and helped Sony introduce Spider-Man on a really impressive way in the blockbuster Captain America: Civil War.
The fact that Robert Downey Jr. appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming again affirms the certainty of Marvel's welcoming Spider-Man to their Cinematic Universe, beside other favorite superheroes. However, there is no information about whether Spider-Man will appear in all 3 films of the trilogy or not, especially when Robert Downey Jr. is famous for not signing long-term movie contracts.
The information of Robert Downey Jr. joining the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming came just 1 day after he revealed he would return in the third installment of Sherlock Holmes series. The actor said, due to the dense schedule of him and director Guy Ritche, the series was put into pause mode for more than 4 years. But “We’re talking about it right now. We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it”, shared Robert.
Last year, writer-producer of the series Sherlock Holmes, Lionel Wigram, updated the status of Sherlock Holmes 3's script, confirming that this will be the best. Those who watched the series must remember the huge success the two previous films achieved not only in the term of revenue, but also the critics' reviews. Therefore, the return of director Guy Ritche, "Sherlock Holmes" Robert Downey Jr. and "John Watson" Jude Law is only the matter of time.
2016 is going to be a busy year for Robert Downey Jr. because Spider-Man starts filming in June, Sherlock Holmes 3 before the end of the year, not to mention Avengers: Infinity War will begin filming shortly thereafter.
