Sources tell Variety that Noah Baumbach has tapped Adam Driver, Laura Dern, and Scarlett Johansson to star in his next film.
With his most recent movie, The Meyerowitz Stories, out in the world via Netflix, Noah Baumbach has lined up an all-star cast for his next flick. Adam Driver, who reteams with the director after While We’re Young and has a brief appearance alongside Ben Stiller in his latest film, will lead the new drama, which also stars Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Merritt Wever, and Azhy Robertson. Additional details are scarce as the only plot synopsis we have thus far is below, from a location scouting notice that cropped up over a month ago in New York City:
The story follows an unfolding divorce that spans from New York City to Los Angeles.
Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories” stars Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller and has received some of the best reviews of Baumbach’s career.
Driver has previously appeared in Baumbach’s While We Were Young and Frances Ha, and has a cameo in The Meyerowitz Stories. He can be seen next in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” This will not be Driver and Johansson’s first collaboration, as they’re already slated to appear together in director Spike Lee’s Black Klansman.
Johansson is currently filming “Avengers: Infinty War” and recently signed on to star in “Reflective Light” at Focus Features.
Dern is coming off her Emmy-winning performance for HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and is expected to participate in Season 2, which starts filming next spring.
Like Meyerowitz Stories, this untitled movie will also be financed and distributed by Netflix, and Baumbach will write it as well as direct it. No release date as of yet, but it should be announced soon once the awards push for The Meyerowitz Stories dies down.
