The 'Conjuring 2' demon nun is back and she is all set to scare the hell out of people.
Bonnie Aarons will reprise her role as the unholy sister in The Nun, New Line’s latest spinoff from James Wan’s horror universe based on characters from the Conjuring films. Aarons played the sinister sister in The Conjuring 2, with the character breaking out and getting her own movie. How she figures into the new movie is being kept under the habit.
The demon nun, a manifestation of the evil spirit Valak, came to life in “The Conjuring 2” from a painting by Patrick Wilson’s paranormal investigator Ed Warren and later attacked Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren. “The Conjuring 2” deals with the 1977 case of demonic possession of an 11-year-old British girl, played by Madison Wolfe.
Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga, Vera’s sister, are already set to star in the thriller, which sees Bichir playing a priest named Father Burke who is dispatched by Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun.
New Line’s The Nun is the second title to spin off from the Conjuring universe, with Annabelle being the first. A sequel to the latter, Annabelle: Creation, is set to open Aug. 11. That movie could propel the franchise, which has grossed over $897 million so far with just three low-to-moderately budgeted films, past a billion dollars.
The movie is written by Gary Dauberman and franchise creator James Wan, with Wan and Peter Safran producing. The movie will be directed by Corin Hardy, who was once tied to helm Relativity’s troubled The Crow reboot. Hardy’s next project is the action film Hell Bent, described as “Dirty Dozen Goes To Hell.” The film centers on mercenaries who go to hell to kill Satan. The production is set to begin in May in Romania. The movie is scheduled to release on July 13, 2018.
