Memoirs of a Geisha and Red Sorghum star Gong Li will star in the Europe-set action-thriller “Ana,” with Martin Campbell on board to direct.

Chinese actress Gong Li is set to star in the upcoming thriller Ana with Martin Campbell directing, according to Variety. “Rush Hour” producer Arthur Sarkissian and China’s Bruno Wu are producing the movie, which Wu is also financing. The script for Ana is written by Richard Wenk, who is known for his work on The Equalizer, The Expendables 2 and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Sarkissian told the site that Ana will be similar in tone to La Femme Nikita, the 1990 film from Luc Besson starring Anne Parillaud and that they plan to start production in March or April.

Gong Li is known for her work in films like Red Sorghum, directed by frequent collaborator Zhang Yimou, The Story of Qui Ju, Farewell My Concubine, Memoirs of a Geisha in which she played the villainous geisha Hatsumomo, Miami Vice, Ju Dou, 2046 and Coming Home.

Martin Campbell is known for directing films like the James Bond films GoldenEye and Casino Royale, Green Lantern, The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro. He recently directed Jackie Chan in the film The Foreigner. He directed the film Cast a Deadly Spell for television as well as episodes of The Professionals and Edge of Darkness. He won a British Academy Television Award for Best Director for his work on the British serial in 1986. He then directed a film version of Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone in 2010.

Sarkissian produced “While You Were Sleeping” and the three “Rush Hour” films. Wu is a Chinese entrepreneur and the co-chairman and CEO of Seven Stars Entertainment & Media Group Limited. Wu and Sarkissian announced last year that they had teamed to launch Peak Time Entertainment with an initial slate of five projects, including “Titanic Code,” about a conspiracy theory to sink the ship.
