Sofia Boutella will star alongside Michael Shannon and Michael B. Jordan in HBO's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic, Fahrenheit 451.
Sofia Boutella, who will soon be seen as the titular character in The Mummy, has landed another high-profile project: HBO Films' upcoming movie Fahrenheit 451. Boutella is playing the female lead, while Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon are also starring in the adaptation of the Ray Bradbury classic. Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel paints a dystopian picture of a world where history is outlawed, books are banned, and other media is used as an opiate to keep the masses placid. Here, "Firemen" work in teams to destroy any rogue printed matter.
Here is the official book description: “Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.
“When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life.”
Jordan is playing Montag, a fire team member who turns against his society's warped rules and has to battle his mentor Beatty (Shannon) to regain his humanity. Boutella will be Clarisse, “an informant caught between the competing interests of Montag and Beatty.” Ramin Bahrani and Amir Naderi (99 Homes) co-wrote HBO's new take, and Bahrani will also direct the telepic. Jordan will executive produce via his Outlier Productions. Sarah Green will serve in the same capacity via her Brace Cove Productions. Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen will also exec produce, with David Coatsworth set to produce. The project has yet to get a final commitment from HBO, though the trade says that it’s moving in that direction.
Boutella has already been in a number of very significant roles in big budget movies over the past two years. She was the deadly assassin Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service, fitted with prosthetic legs that could slice a man in two. The actress also played the feisty alien Jaylah, who aided Kirk and the crew in Star Trek Beyond. And in 2017, she will be seen in a few short days as the title character of Princess Ahmanet in The Mummy, quickly followed by her role as Delphine working alongside Charlize Theron’s butt-kicking spy in the much anticipated action-thriller Atomic Blonde.
