Star Wars: Episode IX is coming sooner than we expected: Disney just moved the release date for the film up to May 24th, 2019.

Disney Lucasfilm announced the release date for the blockbuster on Tuesday, and also revealed that Harrison Ford's fifth Indiana Jones adventure has been pushed back from July 19, 2019 until July 10, 2020.

"Episode IX" completes the trilogy that began after Disney bought George Lucas's Lucasfilm in a $4 billion deal in 2012. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which reunited the original cast of the first 1977 film, was released in December 2015, and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is due to open worldwide on Dec. 15, 2017. Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return in Episode IX.

Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando, Florida earlier this month, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said the late Carrie Fisher would not be appearing via digital recreation in Episode IX, despite earlier reports suggesting the contrary. Fans had seen the digital recreation of Fisher as a young Leia in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

"We have not read a script yet for Episode IX," Kennedy told reporters.

"Obviously, when Carrie passed away in December, that was a huge blow for all of us and it caused us to sit with Colin and really rethink where we're headed with Episode IX."

"Carrie was a significant part of that story - that was something she very much wanted and we very much wanted," Kennedy continued.

"But given the circumstances, we would not carry on with that."

In other Lucasfilm news, the fifth Indiana Jones film, originally scheduled for 2019, has been bumped back a year. It’s now planned to open on July 10, 2020. Both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford will be back for that one, at least for now. But Disney wasn’t done just there. They also made these changes:

- Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 has been delayed from March 2018 to November 21, 2018.

- Frozen 2 will be released November 27, 2019.

- Jon Favreau’s live-action Lion King musical will be out July 19, 2019.

- Disney Animation’s Gigantic has been moved back two years, from November 2018 to November 25, 2020.
