Kurt Russell has confirmed that although he and his Tango & Cash co-star Sylvester Stallone are appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2., their characters don't have any scenes together.

For twenty-seven years, three months, and nineteen days, fans of beloved 1989 classic buddy cop film Tango and Cash have been waiting for stars Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone to reunite in some fashion, preferably in a Marvel Comics space superhero flick. Finally, with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, our time has come, but according to Russell, who will be playing Ego the Living Planet in the Marvel movie, though both actors are in the film, they won’t be sharing any screen time.

However, Russell did say that he and Stallone were able to reunite behind-the-scenes, on the film's set. "Well... no, there's nothing there. But what was fun was, when I learned that Sly was going to play a part, it was fun to just be ale to feel that we were in the same movie. I saw Sly two or three times during the making of the movie and after.  It was great to be able to, once gain, hang with Sly. He's a really huge person. His demeanor, everything about him. He always puts a smile on my face, and we share lots of laughs. I find him to be very smart and very funny - and alive... He's a great hang. This was just fun, being in the same sandbox. It was nice to have that connection again."

The film’s director James Gunn has previously made it clear that both characters are important to the MCU going forward and these will not be one-off appearances.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
