The cast for Shazam! is continuing to take shape, and it just added a The Walking Dead fan-favorite.

Per Deadline, Cooper Andrews, who currently co-stars on The Walking Dead as Jerry, has joined the DCEU in the upcoming Shazam! Project for New Line. Andrews will reportedly play the role of Billy Batson's foster parent at the group home where Billy lives. The Walking Dead actor is a familiar face to TV audiences. Apart from his role as Jerry on the popular series, he had a recurring role on the dearly departed AMC computer industry drama Halt and Catch Fire, and recently starred in Sundance TV’s Red Road, opposite current big screen Aquaman Jason Momoa. His film credits are a bit more limited, and Shazam! could prove a pivotal role for a talented young actor.

Shazam is a DC Comics character who first debuted in 1939 with the original name of Captain Marvel. Created by C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character was first published by Fawcett Comics. Shazam himself is the alter-ego of teenager Billy Batson who has the ability to say the word “Shazam,” and transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods after saying the word.

Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), who last month hilariously shut down Reddit rumors that he had been fired from the production, is working from a script by Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo) and Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Slayer). Shazam will be shooting at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada early next year. It stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Angel Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi and Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña. Mark Strong is also in negotiations to play Doctor Sivana, but there's no word yet on if he's officially secured the main antagonist role. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2019.
