John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski will bring the comic book series Kill or Be Killed to the big screen.
Per THR, Stahelski will team with his John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk to adapt Kill or Be Killed, Ed Brubaker‘s dark little tale of suicide, demons, and murder, with Dan Casey, who previously adapted Brubaker’s comic Incognito for Columbia, attached to write the script. The comic series centers on the supernatural ordeal of protagonist Dylan, a depressed graduate student who attempts a building-leaping suicide over the lament of a failed love affair. However, an opportunistic demon catches existential wind of the act and saves Dylan’s life, but locks him into the sinister caveat of having to earn each month of his life with a murder. Consequently, Dylan, deciding that he wants to live, exploits a moral grey area by fulfilling this sacrifice as a masked gun-wielding vigilante.
Here’s the officials synopsis for Kill or Be Killed via Image Comics:
“The bestselling team of ED BRUBAKER and SEAN PHILLIPS (THE FADE OUT, CRIMINAL, FATALE) launch their new monthly series: KILL OR BE KILLED, the twisted story of a young man who is forced to kill bad people, and how he struggles to keep his secret as it slowly ruins his life and the lives of his friends and loved ones. Both a thriller and a deconstruction of vigilantism, KILL OR BE KILLED is unlike anything BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS have ever done.”
Stahelski directed both John Wick installments (technically co-directing the first one with Deadpool 2's David Leitch). He is set to helm the upcoming third installment as well. Outside of that, Stahelski is a prolific assistant director and stunt coordinator, working on Captain America: Civil War, The Wolverine, and The Hunger Games.
