The first major female superhero film achieved another milestone in becoming the highest-grossing film within the DC Extended Universe of films.

With box office collection USD 334.9 million, the Patty Jenkins-directed movie earned the title of the highest- grossing film within the DC Extended Universe. It got an “A” from Cinemascore viewers, and overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. The profound wave of positivity is particularly striking when compared to other DC Comics Extended Universe sibling films, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

The breakdown:

Wonder Woman (4 weeks): $334.9 million

Batman v Superman (12 weeks): $330 million

Suicide Squad (14 weeks): $325 million

Man of Steel (14 weeks): $291 million

The movie has already become the highest grossing female-directed movie of all time, thanks in no small part to director Patty Jenkins, as well as the highest grossing female-led live action movie, the latter record surpassing Mamma Mia!'s total.

Internationally, Wonder Woman is still somewhat behind, Zack Snyder’s superhero brawler having made $873.26 million around the world, the Gal Gadot-led flick standing at $670.68 million, just ahead of Man of Steel ($668.05 million).

Meanwhile, Gadot has recently responded to reports that she received far less money for playing Wonder Woman than Henry Cavill's salary for Man of Steel.

"I'm grateful and happy," she said of the support she has received following the news.

Following the movie's immense success, DC boss Geoff Johns has promised to "make the movies fun" and "just make sure that the characters are the characters with heart, humour, hope, heroics, and optimism at the base".

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
