Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to co-star with Chris Pine in Netflixs upcoming movie "Outlaw King".

The 27-year-old Golden Globe-winning actor joins Chris Pine in David Mackenzie’s presentation of Scotland’s fight for independence from English rule during the 14th century, taking the role of James Douglas, the trusted right hand man to Pine’s revolution leading “King of Scots” Robert the Bruce. The son of the first noble to support William Wallace when he made the first move towards independence from the British, Douglas watched his father's lands given away and joined Robert the Bruce as an outcast driven to avenge his loss. The pair learned guerrilla fighting tactics that gave way to years of surprise attacks that finally brought freedom.

Taylor-Johnson is coming off a scary performance in the Tom Ford-directed Nocturnal Animals, which won him the Golden Globe and got him a BAFTA nomination, and the Doug Liman-directed drama The Wall. He is also known for Kick-Ass, Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, and for playing Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Outlaw King is set to begin filming in Scotland this August, directed by Mackenzie, with whom Pine worked on the critically-acclaimed film "Hell or High Water", from his own script. While Mackenzie previously flirted with the Scarface remake at Universal and has met with the James Bond producers to discuss the possibility of directing the next 007 movie, he’s focused on making his next movie for Netflix. The streaming service was eager to be in business with the Scottish filmmaker in the wake of his Best Picture nominee Hell or High Water, and Outlaw King is said to be a true passion project for the fast-rising director.

"Outlaw King" will be produced by Steve Golin and Richard Brown of Anonymous Content, as well as Gillian Berrie of Sigma Films. There has yet to be an announcement regarding a potential release date.
